ADLESTROP visited near- neighbours Rissington in the Cirencester and District League Division One on Saturday and came away with 18 points thanks largely to a century by Mark Odom, who carried his bat for 123.

He was joined by Matthew Barnes (28) in an opening stand of 84 but the advent of spinner Robin Eeles brought about a collapse to 115-5.

Odom was then joined by Chris Gardiner and the last 13 overs of the innings produced 76, Gardiner contributing an invaluable 26 not out in a total of 191.

Rissington openers Brian Brain and John Surch made slow progress against the tight bowling of Nick Keen and Dan Parker and the first 20 overs produced only 56 runs.

Rissington then went after the Adlestrop spinners Nurden and Hedges, but as the scoring rate increased wickets fell, two of them to run outs, and the home side finished 21 short for the loss of eight wickets.

Adlestrop entertained Cheltenham Police on Sunday and won a thrilling encounter on the last ball of the game.

Batting first the Police lost the early wicket of Davis in the seventh over but Carter (42) supported by Gibson (13) and later Wheatman (72) pushed the score to 166 at tea.

On the resumption the home team lost three wickets for 25 but Barnes and Nick Keen rescued things, putting on 58 for the fourth wicket before Keen was bowled for 37.

Barnes completed his 50 before being adjudged caught behind. With overs running out there were still 42 required off the last five overs. The first of these yielded 11, followed by nine off the next and ten off the penultimate over left the home side to get the remaining three runs off the last over.

The first two balls yielded nothing plus a wicket going down.

Colin Hicks arrived at the wicket and got a bat on the ball to leave two runs remaining off the last ball which Keith Barnes hit straight and hard. With Hicks backing up the two runs required were achieved leaving the visitors defeated by two wickets.
