ACTOR Ian Richardson launched a new video and DVD on the Life of William Shakespeare in Stratford last week.

The actor, who presents and narrates the film, with readings of Shakespeare's work by actress Dame Judi Dench, was at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for the launch.

The film covers Shakespeare's formative years in Stratford and his time spent in London.

Filmed on location in Stratford and London, the programme explores the houses, places and people linked to Shakespeare.

Among the locations are Shakespeare's Birthplace in Henley Street, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Mary Arden's House, Palmers Farm, New Place, Hall's Croft, Nash's House and Charlecote Park.

The film is to be the official souvenir video and DVD for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

Period cameo scenes are recreated by actor Roy Cane and amusing character voices are provided by Stratford actor Guy Adams.

The film has been produced by Alan Tibbitts of DVX Productions near Exeter.

The Life of William Shakespeare is available on video for £12.99 and on DVD for £15.99.

The DVD contains an exclusive interview with Ian Richardson at his home in Devon, talking about his life and experiences with the RSC and tips on acting.
