A TODDLER suffered a gashed head and scratches when he fell into a pile of broken glass in a vandalised telephone box.

The family of two-year-old Keaton Gibbs is appealing for such mindless damage to stop, after a simple phone call turned into a nightmare.

Grandmother Annette Henderson was using the phone box in Brookthorpe Close, Warndon, while Keaton stood outside with his mother Shelley.

As the adventurous toddler decided to wander inside the damaged box, to stand by his gran, he slipped over and cut himself.

"We had made the call and we were just about to leave the box when Keaton fell backwards," said Shelley Henderson, of Chedworth Close.

"His whole body fell into the glass. It was over his head, legs and arms. We had to shake him to get the glass off.

"We saw blood starting to run down his neck and arms. We were in a panic because we couldn't find where it was pouring from."

The shaken 20-year-old managed to run home for a wet cloth to help stem the bleeding.

When they discovered it was coming from a head wound, another relative took Keaton by car to hospital for treatment.

The youngster had the one-inch gash glued after last Friday's incident, leaving his mother angry at the acts of vandalism on the estate.

"Despite the box being repaired, it seems to be repeatedly targeted week after week," said Miss Henderson.

"We need to look into using clear plastic sides or have nothing at all, instead of using the glass - it just keeps getting smashed."

She said Keaton was on the mend after nursing a sore head for a few days.
