Himbleton v Barnards Green

Barnards Green 1st XI visited Himbleton on Saturday in a vital WCL division 3 match.

Green skipper Rich Williams won the toss and asked the home side to bat first on a wicket with plenty of grass.

However, Himbleton got off to a good start with the opening pair adding 60 in reasonably quick time.

Ian Scullion then removed Clark with the aid of an acrobatic catch from Rich Williams at square leg and Rogers followed next ball, caught behind by Glendinning. Tim Williams replaced the luckless Duncan Bell and soon accounted for Iggulden with a yorker.

McCann and Oliver steadied the ship for a short time, both of them reaching the 20's. However, carefully set fields managed to frustrate the pair and both fell to Williams thanks to good catches from Scullion and Paul Drinkwater.

Wickets then began to fall regularly with Williams and Scullion enjoying some bounce out of the wicket. In the end Himbleton were dismissed for 132 in 37.1 overs.

Scullion finished with 3-36 and Williams posted career best figures of 7-50.

Phil Spencer (32) and Paul Drinkwater set off positively in reply with rain looming. Both found the boundary several times as they added 68 in 15 overs. Both were then caught in the same over attempting to increase the run rate.

Rich Williams (40no) and Kev Golder (23no) then came together and continued to bat positively. They added 67 in 11 overs with both looking in excellent form and making light work of the target.

Barnards Green thus took 20 vital points and after other teams near the top dropped points the Green are now back with a realistic chance of promotion.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the Green entertain Enville at North End Lane in another must win game.
