ON Sunday, Barnards Green 2nd XI entertained an experienced Chaddesley Corbett team in the Sunday league.

Put in to bat, the Green soon found themselves facing one of the quickest pace attacks seen at the Green this year. Young openers Marc Jones and Mat Brookes did well in the early overs until Jones nibbled at one and was caught off Swan. Lee Hooper followed shortly completely beaten for pace.

Brookes showed good application, but was undone by Swan going back instead of forward and lost his middle stump. Tim Price (30) then took on the attack and mixed aggression with some excellent legside shots and was well supported by the experienced Roy Mayo who held his end up well until he was bowled by Hayden with the score on 59.

Justin McMillan was extremely unlucky to be run out when Price crashed a ball straight back down the wicket only for the bowler to get his fingertips to the ball and divert it onto the stumps.

With Swan (3-4 off 6 overs) rested, Price was then LBW and at 65-6 things looked bleak and a skipper's innings was required. Robin Longmore (59) did not disappoint and ably supported by Marek Wajzer (8) his son Jamie (9) and Andy Lamb, the total managed respectability at 155.

In reply, Chaddesley Corbett were soon in trouble when Andy Lamb bowled both openers, but skipper Garbett (69no) steadied the ship. He should have gone early on but was dropped off the bowling of Emily Price.

Jamie Longmore re-discovered some form to bowl an excellent spell of 2-23 from his nine overs, but Chaddesley eased home with two overs to spare.

Many thanks to match sponsor Malvern Instruments. Next sunday is fete day at the Green but the seconds travel to Feckenham.
