A MALVERN cartoonist who could become the next Gary Larson is to exhibit some of his hundreds of satirical and humorous sketches in aid of charity.

Thirty-three year old Vince Sneed, who went to Dyson Perrins school, returned to Malvern in March after spending nearly two years cycling around Europe, Morocco and India.

From Saturday, July 27, for three weeks, Mr Sneed will be holding an exhibition of watercolour cartoons at Malvern Library to raise funds for the Wish foundation, which helps poverty-stricken Indian children.

Previously a London-based graphic artist, Mr Sneed said he then planned to head back to the capital in September to find a publisher for some of his 900 cartoons.

First inspired by Gary Larson, creator of The Far Side comics and video, he said: "I started off in the humour of The Far Side, thinking of cartoons and drawing a bit like him. But I stopped that and got rid of all his books to develop my own style.

"I used to work on computers but had enough and felt I had to go abroad and try and concentrate on cartoons. I wanted to go back to a very simple way of life. I used to cycle a little and then stop and do a cartoon.

"I draw from observation or from a conversation I have with someone. If I'm sat somewhere I can draw the landscape but it's usually all from head.

"When you're travelling you make a lot of observations on the way people interact and different cultures. I absorb it all and it comes out later.

"I ended up in Bombay and I was really shocked by the poverty. I realised then that I was very fortunate to be on a bicycle with money in my pocket and food. Now I've seen that I can't go back to living the lifestyle I had before, spending loads of money on stuff. I want to try and help a few people."

Mr Sneed said that every £1 raised form selling his work at the Malvern exhibition, or from selling cards, would help keep a child in India fed for days.
