DURING the Boer War in South Africa, many Worcester people busied themselves sending "Comforts for the Soldiers."
The Journal said that in one period of just two months, citizens collected £48 in cash and also parcelled up numerous articles of donated clothing - all destined for men of the 1st Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment.
"Dispatched by Parcel Post have been 140 flannel shirts, 173 pairs of warm pants, 310 pairs of socks, 407 woollen helmets, 134 cholera belts, 75 caps and tam o'shanters, 32 pairs of mittens and 84 handkerchiefs, plus large quantities of tobacco."
