WELL I for one love road works!
I wrote to you in March regarding the danger faced by pedestrians from the traffic using Knapp Lane as a short cut. The roadworks in the Homend have not only enabled myself and fellow pedestrians to use the lane in safety but residents that use Knapp Lane in a legitimate way, to do so much easier. Keep those road works going.
This just shows that alternative routes are available to the selfish people who dismiss the road that was purposely constructed to carry such volumes of traffic.
However, quite a few people have decided that the alternative to Knapp Lane is not the Worcester Road, but Bank Crescent. On Wednesday, July 3, there was a head-on car crash right outside our house. Drivers did not turn round and find additional routes but drove right over the pavement! They only changed direction when the police arrived and told them to.
I really have no idea why people must use this route, it is so dangerous, it's scary even to walk it, a walk around West Hill and crossing over Four Ways, must be done with breath held. Although a new route would no doubt mean ripping up fields, I would rather that than having to call an ambulance. Why can't drivers think of somebody other than themselves.
