AMBASSADORS Theatre Group declined an invitation to take part in the meeting but issued a statement read out by Gazette & Reporter editor Nick Howells.
It said that in 2000 it took up an invitation to bid for the venue from Malvern Theatres Trust and Malvern Hills District Council.
The company outlined its experience in the industry, saying that it already runs 10 West End theatres and 10 regional venues, many in partnership with local auth-orities.
As a result of that achievement it says it recognises the importance of theatres in local communities and if it came to Malvern, would be keen to continue encouraging local involvement and productions.
However, there were no details about the substance of the Ambassadors bid, its views with regard to local professional and amateur production groups, volunteer staff or programming ideas.
Malvern Hills District Council has indicated that it will be looking to publish a detailed outline of Ambass-ador's plans in the next few weeks.
