LOCAL government workers are preparing for another one-day strike as part of a national pay dispute.

Public services union Unison has named Wednesday, August 14, as the likely date.

Regional organiser Peter Fennell said: "The employers have indicated they could be looking at the possibility of a two or three-year deal. But we won't call off next month's strike just on the basis of discussions about discussions.

"We want the employers to bring something more positive to the table than that."

The union has rejected a three per cent offer. It wants six per cent or £1,750, whichever is the greater.
