A TEAM of grass track racers from Ledbury and Malvern finished fourth in Sunday's British Championships, despite the fact they have only been racing sidecars for less than 12 months.
Rider Tony Starke, from Mal-vern, passenger Darren Wood and their mechanic Matt Nye, both from Ledbury, have had some outstanding results in their first season but still needed a letter of support from their club, the Ledbury Grasstrack Club, to get them into Sunday's event at Minsterley in Shropshire.
There they certainly vindicated the support they have been given with a fourth place which qualifies them to race in Europe next year.
The result was a ticket to races in Denmark, Holland, Czechoslova-kia and Germany, where the sport is much bigger and consequently so is the prize money. Tony Starke used to ride solo but since joining up with Darren Wood the pair haven't looked back.
So far the three have been pursuing their expensive hobby with sponsorship of just £350 and the winner of the British Champion-ship only picked up £150.
