WYTHALL'S Glen Smith sailed into the discuss final after a confident throw saw him finish third in the qualifying round.
Smith threw 59.3 metres, well below his season's best of 63.1m but enough to see him through with the top 12 qualifying.
But he faces stiff competition in tomorrows final starting at 8pm.
South African Frantz Kruger set a new Commonwealth record of 66.25m to win the heat, with Canadian Jason Tunks second with 59.87m.
