IAN Cottrill is hoping to finalise a testimonial date with First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers next week.

The Worcester City stalwart, who has been forced to retire due to wear and tear on his knee, is due to sit down with manager John Barton and Wolves boss Dave Jones to sort out a date.

Jones, a former Everton team-mate of Barton, is expected to bring his first team for the testimonial in recognition of Cottrill's long service to City.

Cottrill, who made 431 appearances for the club over 15 years -- interrupted by a three-year stint at Nuneaton --admitted he was disappointed to be forced to retire but after successfully completing a full pre-season training programme his knee flared up during a reserve match against Studley.

"I hoped everything might be OK because I did all the pre-season but it just folded up and after half-an-hour I was in pain," he said.

A Wolves XI will play City at St George's Lane next Thursday (7.45) in a pre-season friendly.
