FIFTEEN Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club members and two Milo Dragons ladies were part of the Great Britain squad who have just returned from Poland with 11 medals.

The haul included five silver medals and three golds in the premier mixed and open women's classes of the European Dragon Boat Racing Championships held at the superb Malta regatta course in Poznan.

Germany, Russia and the home crews from Poland provided the main opposition across two days of racing.

The squads medal successes secured second place to Germany in the European Nations Cup, ahead of Poland.

A flying start by Germany denied the premier mixed crew a golden double in the 500m competition, a result that might have overturned the overall nations cup result.

Highlight of the competition for GB were the two gold medals won by the open women's crew, including WDBRC member and new cap Maggie Noke.

They edged out Germany in the 1000m and blue riband 500m event confirming their position as European champions.

The Worcester club members can now concentrate on preparation for the forthcoming National League event to be held behind the Grandstand on August 11.

They will be hoping to repeat their winning form of a few weeks ago, against crews from across the United Kingdom.

Racing starts at 10am and continues throughout the day, contact the race organiser by email on nigel@worcester-dragons.org.uk for more in-formation.
