THERE'S no place like Rome.

Youngsters are being invited to take up their swords and shields for a day of fun at Worcester's Museum of Local Life.

Eight to 12-year-olds will relive scenes from the film Gladiator as they are introduced to life in Roman times.

They will have the chance to don Roman armour and train as gladiators during re-enactments of historical events, including the last moments of Queen Boudicca.

They will also be able to take part in some historic modelling, taking part in a Roman versus the Britons fashion show to decide who was best-dressed at the time. Participants will be given the opportunity to design and create a Roman mosaic and this will be given to them as a souvenir of the workshop.

"The workshop will provide a brilliant lesson in history through experiencing many aspects of Roman everyday life and having plenty of fun at the same time," said Pam Davies, co-ordinator.

The workshops will take place at The Museum of Local Life this Wednesday, July 31.

They will be held at 10am and noon and last one-and-a-half hours. The cost is £3.50 per child and booking is required.
