A TEENAGER hurled a drink over a man's sandwiches when he refused to hand over his cash in an Evesham snack bar.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and his accomplice, 21-year-old Barrie Forrester, then pinned the man up against the wall of Subway.

Abi Nixon, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Forrester, of Holly Close, Evesham, and the youth, approached the victim outside the Green Dragon pub, in Oat Street, and asked him for money.

Magistrates heard the pair again went up to him while he was having something to eat and drink in the Bridge Street sandwich bar.

Money demand

They asked him for money, but, when he continued to refuse, the youth poured the victim's drink over his food.

"Forrester threatened the complainant with a pen that he held like a dagger," Miss Nixon said.

She told the court that they then backed him up against a wall in the busy sandwich shop.

"A member of staff told them to leave him alone or they would call the police," Miss Nixon added.

"As they went to call the police, another member of staff saw them assault the man."

Forrester admitted assault, but claimed the man had been abusive towards them outside the pub, Miss Nixon said.

He also admitted having the pen, but denied he had held it like a dagger, she added.

The youth, who also admitted assault, told police he had started the fracas by hitting the complainant.

Dale Sheehan, defending Forrester, and Louise Hooker, defending the youth, offered nothing in mitigation, but asked for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.

Forrester's case was adjourned to Thursday, August 22.

The youth is due to appear the previous day.
