HEREFORDSHIRE are on the brink of victory in their Minor Counties Championship Western Division clash with Berkshire at Finchampstead -- thanks to more heroics from Martin McCague.
The Kent and former England paceman, making his Herefordshire debut, followed his three wickets on the opening day by hitting 67 off 41 balls, including five sixes and four fours.
Ismail Dawood hit 98, Chris Boroughs 96no and Harshad Patel 93 as the visitors declared their first innings on 432-7, a lead of 201 runs.
McCague then bagged three more wickets at a cost of 45 runs as Berkshire slipped to 130-8 at the close in their second innings, still needing another 71 runs to make Herefordshire bat again.
Paul Thomas (2-41) and Paul Lazenbury (2-4) gave him good support, with only Jonathan Perkins (32) and Tom Burrows (28no) putting up much resistance.
