CRAIG Chalmers has been given the green light to re-ignite his Worcester Rugby Club career at Wakefield on Saturday.

The former Scotland fly-half is included in a 23-man squad bound for College Grove in a National One clash Worcester simply cannot afford to slip up in.

The 33-year-old summer signing has only played one-and-a-half games so far this season after knee and hamstring injuries but has come through training this week and could start in Yorkshire.

His deputy, Tony Yapp, scored a hat-trick during a fine performance last weekend in the National Cup game at Lydney but could drop to the bench with Chalmers back in contention.

And for head coach John Brain, Chalmers' return is well-timed as Worcester get back to league action for the first time since their shock 31-22 home defeat by Coventry.

"It's good news to have Craig back," said Brain. "Even though Tony has done a great job for us this season, I think we have played some of our best rugby when Craig has played. Craig has been very unlucky so far with injuries so we are just hoping that is behind him now and we can keep him fit.

"It's obviously a very important match for us coming after the Coventry game. We need to win the game and get five points. Lydney, last weekend, was a confidence boost for us and we go into the game in good spirits."

Brain, however, was sweating on the fitness of winger Chris Garrard today after the Australian went down with 'flu. Fellow Aussie Alistair Murdoch is definitely ruled out after damaging an ankle in his comeback game at Lydney.

Last season's skipper is likely to be fit next week but for prop Andy Collins, who also suffered an ankle knock in the cup game, the stay on the sidelines will be at least two weeks.

Long-term injury victim Elton Moncrieff continues his recovery from his calf problem and Brain has revealed the scrum-half is having the 'Michael Owen treatment' in a bid to get him fit.

"Elton is now having new treatment," he added. "It is a technique similar to the one Michael Owen had on his hamstring injury. They subject the injury to contraction and at present, it seems to be working."

Possible team: Tuipulotu; Garrard, Hinshelwood, Yates, Stanley, Chalmers, Smith; Windo, Ross, Moreno, Zaltzman, Morgan, Clarke, Jones, Jenner. Replacements: Lyman, Davis, Hall, Sims, Evans, Roke, Pellow, Yapp.
