NEW signing Adam Webster is relishing the prospect of making his debut for Worcester City in their Dr Martens League Premier Division clash with Hednesford Town today.

The 21-year-old, who completed his move from Bedworth United last week, has been sidelined with a back strain but is hoping to be passed fit for his first appearance at St George's Lane.

Heavy frost, however, has put the game in considerable doubt, and a pitch inspection was planned at St George's Lane this morning.

Webster admitted he jumped at the chance to join City despite a happy stay with the Greenbacks who signed him from Notts County.

He moved to City for a fee believed to be close to the club record of £8,500, which has stood for 20 years following Jimmy Williams' move from Walsall.

"Worcester is a big club and I've only been here a few days and can see that," said Webster.

"It wasn't a hard decision to move, I felt quite sad to leave Bedworth but it was time to move on and try and progress with my football career.

"I'm very excited about the move and just want to get fit and playing. I got fouled a few weeks ago and pulled a muscle but did a warm-up against Weymouth and it seems OK and hopefully I can be fit for today and play if selected.

"I'm looking forward to playing at St George's Lane. I was quite excited when John Barton showed me around the ground and the lads have been good to me since I've been here and I can't wait to play.

"I'm just trying to shut off from all the expectations and concentrate on my game because I believe if I dwell on that I might not show what I'm capable of doing.

"Hopefully I can make my debut today and show the crowd what I can do."

Webster is from Leicester and turned professional with Notts County at the age of 18. He was at Meadow Lane for 18 months before being released and snapped up by Bedworth.

He scored 18 goals last season and has almost as many this year.

City boss John Barton first saw him play when Bedworth put four past Tamworth in the Dr Martens League Cup - as they did to Worcester - and was delighted to finally to sign Webster.

Barton's assistant Mick Tuohy is predicting good things for the young forward who could link up with Stewart Hadley today with Mark Shepherd struggling with a hamstring injury.

"We're all looking forward to seeing Adam play," said Tuohy. "John's waited very patiently to get his man and we are looking forward for a bright future for Adam and Worcester City."
