WORCESTER City manager John Barton is poised to sign a new player ahead of Saturday's Dr Martens Premier Division home clash with Tiverton Town.
Barton is hopeful of capturing the player before the weekend to help boost his squad that has been depleted by injury and suspension.
But the St George's Lane boss rated the chances of landing the player by the weekend as only 50-50.
"We've got a chance but it's down to the player's club in question," said Barton.
Striking options at the St George's Lane club are thin, with leading scorer Mark Owen ruled out for the rest of the season and Mark Shepherd also missing the Tiverton match as he starts a three-match ban after being sent off against Ilkeston Town two weeks ago.
Darren Middleton is set to be pushed up front with Phil Stant for Tivvy's visit although there is a slight doubt over the veteran forward, who picked up a knee injury in last Saturday's 3-2 FA Cup victory at St Blazey.
