Worcester City boss John Barton is poised to sign at least one and possibly both trialist strikers Darren Middleton and Phil Stant in the next few days.

The St George's Lane manager confirmed he had spoken to both players with a view to them joining the club.

Former Hereford United frontman, Stant, who played at Margate on Saturday, was on the scoresheet in City's 3-2 mid-week victory at home to Boston United and Middleton has also turned in impressive displays during pre-season.

"The situation is that we are hoping to have some good news in the early part of the week," said Barton.

"We have spoken to both and we are hopeful they will sign."

But former Birmingham City forward Kevin Francis, who played against Wolves last week, will not be joining City after signing for Hednesford.

"We were not in the position to offer him anything concrete after just 45 minutes," said Barton.

Worcester's boss also revealed that after Saturday's Dr Martens Charity Shield curtain-raiser at Margate, that he and opposing manager, Chris Kinnear, had agreed to share the trophy after the match finished all square after extra-time.

But officials insisted they hold a penalty shoot-out, which Worcester lost 5-3.

Meanwhile, Worcester City's new signing Allan Davies has a testimonial with his old club Burton Albion against Derby County at Eton Park, Burton, tomorrow (7.30pm kick off).

Davies spent ten years at Burton, chalking up over 400 appearances before his summer move to St George's Lane.
