FORMER Birmingham City striker Kevin Francis is set to play up front for Worcester City in their friendly against Wolverhampton Wanderers at St George's Lane tonight (7.45).

The 6ft 7in forward has recovered from a minor knee operation and will partner another trialist, Darren Middleton, in attack.

Speculation has repeatedly linked Francis with the club and manager John Barton is keen to see what the giant player can do.

"He is an unorthodox player but we are interested to have a look at him and see what kind of damage he could do playing at our level," said Barton.

"We have to try and look at our attacking options and it is well documented we are looking to bring in another striker to the club."

Middleton, who was on trial at Kidderminster Harriers during pre-season, played in City's 1-0 defeat at Sutton Coldfield Town and showed flashes of his undoubted ability.

City's established strike force of Mark Owen and Mark Shepherd both missed the last game with injury, but could figure for part of the game tonight.

Barton said: "We are going to have to wait and see how people are. There is no point in risking people when there are a couple of weeks to go until the start of the season."

Heavy rain should produce ideal playing conditions at St George's Lane and Barton is looking for an improved performance after two lacklustre displays against Sutton Coldfield and Atherstone United.

He added: "Hopefully we can get something out of the game because we didn't get much out of the last two games and we are looking to catch up."

Barton is expecting Wolves boss, Dave Jones, to be at the match and it will be an opportunity for the former Everton team-mates to meet up.

City skipper, Carl Heeley, who is a Wolverhampton lad, is relishing playing against the First Division outfit, who have been tipped to be serious promotion challengers this year and should field several first-team squad members tonight.

"Last year they sent a decent side at least for part of the game so they're quite competitive," he said.

"I'm also from Wolverhampton so for me it is nice to play them."

City are at home again on Wednesday when they entertain Conference side Boston United.
