WORCESTER City have admitted they are interested in signing giant former Birmingham City striker Kevin Francis.

The 33-year-old 6ft 7in front man is one of several players City have targeted, although they face competition from other clubs including Dr Martens Premier Division rivals Hednesford Town.

Worcester's assistant manager Mick Tuohy said: "We have spoken to him a couple of times but terms haven't been discussed, but he is also in discussions with Hednesford, who have already made him an offer, and he is waiting on confirmation of that.

"There was some concern because he has just had a check on his knee and his availability over the next few weeks could be limited."

Francis made his name at Stockport County where he formed a prolific partnership with former St George's Lane striker Andy Preece.

City open their pre-season friendlies at Oldbury United on Monday, followed by a home clash with First Division Coventry City next Wednesday.
