WORCESTER City are targeting a Football League striker to fill their last remaining problem position.

They have not named the player concerned, but they hope to invite him to pre-season training in the coming weeks.

A possibility, I understand, could be giant former Birmingham City and Stockport County striker Kevin Francis.

The 6ft 7in front man, aged 33, has been targeted by several clubs including Bromsgrove Rovers, having ended last season with Hull City.

Worcester manager John Barton is anxious to boost his strike force in time for the new season, having lost out to Bath City in the chase for Clevedon Town forward Paul Milsom.

City secretary Steve Bond said of Francis: "We know about him and know he has been linked to Bromsgrove and two or three other Southern League clubs.

"There are several strikers we are looking at, but we are staying patient and hope to bring a player in before the start of the season."
