NEIL Fletcher rewrote the record books at the weekend to become the most successful batsman in Cutnall Green Cricket Club's 75-year history.

Fletcher's unbeaten 202, scored in 36 overs and including five sixes and 25 fours, helped his side to a comfortable 182-run home victory over Bridewell last Saturday.

The double century is a new club record, surpassing Matthew Harris' 167, and makes him the first player in Worcestershire County League history to pass 1,000 league runs in a season with 1,032 to date.

The 26-year-old, who has hit seven centuries this season alone, is also the first player to pass the 200-run mark in a division five match, beating the previous record of 184 set in 1999.

He said: "I can't believe it - I didn't realise I had broken all those records.

"I was batting well and was seeing the ball like a football and everything was coming off the middle of the bat.

"This is definitely my best season without a doubt. Scoring 1,000 runs is a feat in itself.

"Everything has just been going right for me."

Fletcher, who has a current batting average of 172, has been playing for Cutnall Green First XI since the age of 12 in 1988.

He was part of the successful youth team, coached by Anthony Evans, with current Green players Matthew and Neil Evans, captain Matthew Harris and Scott Shuck.

In the division five encounter, Harris declared at 279 without loss once Fletcher, aided by Derek Higgins' 63 not out, had reached 200.

In reply, Bridewell batted for a draw but were undone by some excellent bowling from D Faulkner (5-10) and three good catches from Higgins.

Bridewell were eventually bowled out in the 37th over for just 97.
