THERE was a big turn out for Tuesday's Startlets Veterans Event as 46 hopefuls lined the banks of Moorlands Farms Meadow Pool.

Dave Bennett (Stourbridge) had a clear victory by waggler fishing corn at peg 42 for a 78-0-0 catch while second place went to Ken Giles (Alvechurch) with 51-4-0. Third was Alan Ryan (Worcester) with 38-15-0.

At Moorlands Farm, the Steadfast 2000 Junior Open was won by 14-year-old Dean Puplett (Kidderminster) with a pole, corn and meat catch of 45-9-0 from silver carp pool peg 18. Second was Grant Nock (West Bromwich) with 32-10-0 and third, Steve McGrath (Stourport), taking 20-12-0.

On Wednesday, the Moorlands Farm Bank and Meadow Pools Open was topped by Chris Hill (Fosters MG) who short pole fished corn at four metres from meadow peg 54 to take a 93-9-0 catch. Bob Jones (Moorlands) missed out by a mere ounce with 93-8-0. Third was Andy Newton's (Lifestyle) 92-7-0.

The Evening Meadow Pool Open went to Mick Pountain (Walsall) with a pole and corn catch of 86-10-0 from peg 42. David James (Lifestyle) followed from opposite peg 22 with 78-13-0 and third was Alan Higgs (CSM) with 53-7-0.

At Astwood Fishery, the Bluebell Pool Open was won by Dave James (Astwood) by pole fishing meat in the margins of peg five for 50-15-0 of carp. Second placed Gary Kirkham (Astwood) had 46-8-0 and third, Paul Webley (Kateshill AC), took 37-3-0.

On Thursday, the KH Veterans fished their event on Woodlands Views Barley and Hay Pools with Mick Scott (Bewdley) staked at hay peg 11 where he pole fished chopped worms and casters for a winning 52-4-0 catch.

Second was Stan James (Bewdley), taking 42-8-0 and third was Alan Ryan (Worcester) with 42-2-0.

Moorlands Farms Special Costcutter Open produced some close catches, headed by Darren Clewley (Wesson) who pole fished corn at Meadow Pool peg 42 for an 86-3-0 catch. Second was Paul Rowverry (Fastfeeders) with 82-15-0 and third went to Terry King (Greenman) with 77-2-0.

The Evening Meadow Pool Open gave Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) a clear victory when he pole fished corn in the margins of peg 18 for a ton up catch of 113-10-0. Second place went to Steve Woodhall (Wack Tackle) with 69-8-0 and third was David James (Lifestyle) with 60-1-0.

Friday's Costcutter Open was also held on the Meadow Pool with Stourbridge matchman Andy Newton (Lifestyle) in good form by pole fishing corn at peg 44 for a 98-9-0 catch.

Team mate Mark Pincher followed with 83-7-0 and third was Neville Groves (Walsall), taking 77-0-0.

On Saturday, local Catshill matchman Gary Booth (Ovation Leisure) took a trip up to Doncaster to fish the riverside Fishery Open.

It was worth the journey as he won the event with a 36-12-0 carp catch taken with pole fished meat over pellet feed from Ricky's Pool peg two.

Second, Mick Marshall (Tight Lines Sheffield), took 30-4-0 and Shane Florence (Sensas Mansfield) took 19-13-0 for third.

Lucas Great King Street held their reunion contest at Makins Fishery, Wolvey, and it was Northfield's Jim Pedley who took the winner's purse, staked at peg three on the Paddock Pool.

He pole fished meat to the island for nine carp scaling in at 17-8-0. Second was Steve Talbot's 16-12-0 and joint third were Derek Willis and John Moore with 12-4-0.

The final round of the Moorlands Farm Summer League saw Barry Gannon (Fosters Gold) take the individual honours by pole fishing chopped worms and casters at Meadow Pool peg 52 for 87-10-0.

Ian Lockley (Map Starlets) followed with 76-6-0 and third was Mal Talbot (Kamasan Kids) with 70-14-0.

Top team on the day were Top 4's with 9pts, Mosella SW 27pts and Gold 28pts. League Winners were Shakespeare Blue 21pts (£1,000), second Top 4's 24pts (£600) and third Wesson 28pts (£400).

Moorlands Farms Evening Open was a close affair with Andy Newton (Lifestyle) showing the way with a pole and corn catch of 77-2-0 from Meadow Pool peg 49. Team mate David James was second with 77-8-0 and third was Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) with 75-2-0.

On Sunday, Studley AC fished its second aggregate contest on the River Arrow at Wixford and Phil O'Donnell demolished the opposition by waggler fishing casters at peg 35 to take an all chub catch of 26-8-0. Second was David Jay's 11-13-0; third was Pete Davies, taking 9-8-0.

Birmingham Fire Brigade AC were at BAA Pershore Right Bank for their second aggregate event with Rick Haynes topping the list with an 11-4-0 mixed catch. Second was Ricky Walker with 8-8-0 and third was Stan Potts' 5-3-0.

Mark Bradley (CSM) was the winner of the Alvechurch Fisheries Horseshoe Pool Open with a pole corn and meat catch of 53-12-0 from peg 16.

Second was Mark Briggs (Rubery), taking 42-4-0 and third went to Scott Foxall (Alvechurch) with 38-4-0.

At Furnace Mill, Worcester, matchman Richard Brewer (Greenman) took first place in the Mucky Meadow and Mill Pools Open by pole fishing meat at Mucky peg 38 for 54-10-0.

Second was Rob Cooksey (Spartans) with 48-8-0 and third was Tony Delves' (Ovation Leisure) 48-8-0.

At Woodlands View, 96 matchmen lined the banks for the Evening Open and it was Nigel Plumb (Shimano Portway) who claimed the winner's purse by pole fishing strawberry meat and corn at Deans Pool peg nine for 92-5-0.

Second was Sean Ashby (Map Starlets) with 83-9-0 and Ian Lockley (Map Starlets) took 78-5-0 for third.
