MALVERN'S Sea Cadets have joined forces with the town's Social Education Centre to make residents the best recyclers in the county.

The two groups - now called the Malvern Green Team - will be encouraging local schools and residents to give them all their aluminium cans and foil.

The Make Things Happen scheme has been organised by the Aluminium Packaging and Recycling Organisation and, if the team meets it target, it will receive a cheque for £500 as well as the value of the aluminium it collects.

The Sea Cadets plan to decorate the premises and brighten classrooms, and the Malvern SEC wants to buy materials for their creature comforts project to make homes for wild birds and bats.

"The Malvern Green Team offer free boxes to groups willing to collect cans and foil for us and we offer a free collection service," said Sue Lloyd, of Malvern SEC.

"The three schools or groups that collect the most aluminium drink cans and foil for us during the next nine months will each receive a free sapling to plant in a public place of their choice in the Malvern area."
