COACHES Brian Steele, Arron Kwiatek and Grant Goodwin from Futebol de Salao Brazilian Soccer Schools Evesham attended a coaching course in Leeds where Brazilian World Cup legend Jairzinho was there to lend a helping foot.

The course is run every year for the coaches of FDS and is set up by Simon Clifford, the president of UK Confederation of Futebol de Salao, which is based in Leeds.

Jairzinho was a star of the Brazilian World Cup-winning team of 1970. During the tournament he claimed the unique distinction of scoring in every round, including the goal that defeated England in what is widely regarded as one of the greatest matches ever played.

In total he struck seven goals to help Brazil lift the Jules Rimet trophy for an historic third time.

The coaches all received advice from Jairzinho on ways to improve training methods for young children in their centres set up in Evesham, Worcester, Warwick, Redditch, Stratford and Pershore.

Arron, 19, a full-time coach for Futebol de Salao, also went away from the course winning the national ball-juggling competition set up by FDS and sponsored by Lego.

Arron said: "I was very proud to meet Jairzinho, as he played Futebol de Salao when he was young. I had the chance to talk and ask questions to him, which he very politely answered."

"Knowing that the likes of Pele, Zico, Juninho, Jairzinho, Rivaldo and Ronaldo played Futebol de Salao is a big incentive for me and the children I coach.

"The Brazilian style has been the envy of billions and now boys and girls around the area have been adopting these techniques and incorporating them into their football development."

Futebol de Salao is played by children aged from five to 16. The next summer school is at Evesham High School from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday between 10am and 3pm.

For more information or to book your child in one of the centres ring Arron any time on 07931591322.

l TWO goals in two minutes by Tony McClean helped Pershore Town to a 4-1 victory over Unity Sports in the first of their pre-season friendlies. The others came from Simon Judge and Simon Brain.
