THE man who won TV fame as Kidderminster's singing dustman is recovering in hospital from a serious illness.
Eddie Wrench, known throughout the town's pubs and clubs for his unusual singing style, was taken ill two weeks ago with kidney failure.
The 66-year-old, who used to live in Kidderminster's Worcester Road, has been having daily hospital treatment on a dialysis machine in Hull.
He moved to Grimsby six years ago with his wife Marion.
His brother Tony, of Hurcott Road, Kidderminster, said: "He was very, very ill and we honestly didn't expect him to pull through.
"Now he is on the road to recovery and we've all got our fingers crossed.
"Eddie is a diabetic and has been in poor health for some time but no-one expected this."
Eddie, who worked as a refuse collector for Wyre Forest District Council, was once featured on regional television after his unconventional singing act began attracting huge numbers of fans in district pubs.
