BIG-HEARTED runners will be aiming to give another big cash injection to a bereavement charity when they hit the fund-raising road.

The Brambles Trust 10k Road Race, which attracted an entry of 200 and raised more than £5,000 when it was staged for the first time last year, is setting its sights on 300-plus runners this time.

And the event on Sunday, September 29 has already received extra recognition because it has been chosen to incorporate the Worcest-ershire 10k Championship which will bring the cream of the county's road runners to Wyre Forest.

The Brambles race, organised by Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club and backed by the Shuttle/Times & News, will start and finish at the all-weather track at Kingsway, Stourport.

There will be a 5k fun run for those who feel the main event of just over six miles is a little too much for them.

Certificates and medals will be awarded to all finishers over both distances.

Entry fees and sponsorship raised by runners will go to the Brambles Trust, which helps youngsters to deal with family bereavement.

There are individual and team prizes in both races, and clubs, pubs and companies are being encouraged to enter teams of three.

Entry fee for the main race is £5 for club runners and £6 for those unaffiliated. The cost of entering the fun run is £4.

Anyone wishing to take part should send for an entry form to the Race Secretary, 91 The Birches, Hartlebury Park, Stourport DY13 9NR and enclose a large SAE.

More information on the event can be obtained by calling 01299 826727.

Entry forms are also available at Stourport Sports Club, Kingsway, for those who would like to raise money through sponsorship.

Six-week schedule to shape up for race

Next week the Shuttle/Times and News will be publishing the first part of a six-week training schedule designed to help readers build up to September's charity race.

The programme has been put together by Gary Barnes, a Kidderminster-based UK athletics coach who has experience of running in races ranging from 10k to marathons.

Look out for his weekly schedule starting in our August 8 issue.
