FORGET driving down to the coast - the seaside is coming to Stourport on Sunday.

After the success of "Kidderminster-on-Sea" last summer, Wyre Forest District Council aims to draw the crowds to the "Stourport Riviera" party on the riverside meadows.

Children can enjoy attractions like a giant sandpit, donkey rides and bouncy castles, while parents can take in live music and comedy.

Most activities are free, and a wide range of stalls offering everything from go-karting to refreshments will complete the party atmosphere.

"Kidderminster last year was brilliant," said the council's events officer Sue Harper. "It will be different this year, more like a party in the park.

"It should be a fantastic day - we just need to keep the sunshine. But Stourport is such a busy town that unless it's chucking it down you're guaranteed a crowd."

She added: "The most popular things are usually the sandpit, donkey rides, face-painting and bouncy castles.

"We've also got a huge 40 ft-long stage. We start off with a roadshow with competitions and games for the kids to get things going."

Musical entertainment will consist of three 45-minute sets - two from nine-piece soul band The Retro Flyers and one courtesy of Kidderminster R 'n' B singer Maxine Moxam and her Birm- ingham partner Chris Hall.

Stefan Feix, a lookalike of the Del boy character from the Only Fools and Horses television series will be compering the stage show, telling jokes and signing autographs.

Volleyball, quick cricket and parachute games will also be on offer.

"It's a real family event with something for everyone," said Mrs Harper.

The action gets underway at noon and runs until 5pm.

l Sunday afternoon will also see the Gershwin gang band performing in Bewdley's QE2 gardens between 2pm and 4.30pm.
