MALVERN Town turned in probably their best display of the season in the Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division, when they comprehensively defeated high flying Star at their Bridgnorth base on Saturday.

STAR 0, MALVERN TOWN 4

It was really all one way traffic once Dean Roberts had set up leading scorer Lee Hooper for Town's opening goal on 15 minutes.

Roberts was prominent in most of Malvern's attacking play and when his 40th minute strike came back off the crossbar, Keith Holmans was on hand to head home the rebound. Inevitably Roberts got himself on the scoresheet when he fired home from the edge of the box just two minutes later.

Five minutes after the break, Town were threatening to run riot, when Holmans long ball was picked up by Roberts, who in turn fed Lee Williams and the young midfielder made no mistake, to register his first goal for the club and give his side an unassailable 4-0 lead.

Inevitably the home side began to show some composure but rarely threatened Dave Alden in the Malvern goal, but at least they prevented Town from adding to their score, although the crossbar was to again denied Roberts in the 65th minute.

Very pleased with his side's display, Town boss Joe Rawle said: "We played some good football today, we kept possession well and always played the ball to feet, which is always our strength.

"In some ways it is frustrating because we have beaten all the top sides, but have been too inconsistent against some of the lesser ones."

A youthful Town Reserve side went down 2-0 at home to second placed Hinton in the Express and Star West Midlands League Division One (South) on Saturday. In a game of few chances, there was little to choose between the sides, but a defensive error allowed the visitors to grab a 30th minute lead and they sealed their success with a second goal five minutes from time.

The Town first team have no game tomorrow (Saturday) but the Reserves are at home again when Mahal visit the Langland Stadium in the Express and Star West Midlands League (2.45pm).
