MALVERN Town returned to winnings ways with a much improved performance at home to Ettingshall HT on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 2, ETTINGSHALL HT 1

But it looked bleak for Town when, after only ten minutes, Lee Elliott turned smartly in the box to put the visitors in front.

But the visitors were rarely seen as an attacking force following this, as Town gradually gained the upper hand.

In the 25th minute Malvern got the equaliser they deserved, when Ricky Halion, who put in an excellent performance after coming on as a 10th minute substitute for the injured Ian Stevenson, played a superb ball onto the head of Lee Hooper, who guided the ball expertly beyond the helpless Scott Bamford in the visitors goal.

Town continued to press after this and it was Keith Holmans who spurned his sides best opportunity in the 60th minute, when he sprang the offside trap, but over elaborated his finish to screw the ball wide of the upright.

But Towns deserved winner came in the 75th minute, when substitute Steve Walker was set up by Halion and fired an excellent drive past Bamford to secure his side the points.

Town thought that they had added a third goal in the final minute but Mark Taylor, who tapped home a Hooper cross, saw his effort disallowed as the referee had blown for time just seconds earlier.

Town general manager, Richard Anson, said: "We played well today, our movement was good and we passed the ball around well.

"Lee Williams did well on his debut and Mark Taylor and substitute Rick Halion were tireless in midfield."
