MALVERN Town completed a double over third-placed Wolverhampton Casuals in the Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division on Saturday.

WOLVERHAMPTON CASUALS 1, MALVERN TOWN 3

Defending into the teeth of a strong wind during the first half Town did well to keep their hosts at bay, although the home side did hit the post and spurned another good opportunity to take the lead.

But in the second half Town took control and on the hour mark Dean Roberts set up Wes Joyce who finished well to put his side in front.

Casuals hit back quickly when a solo run and a good finish levelled matters just five minutes later, but when Adam Ward stooped low to head home from a 73rd minute corner, Town's lead was restored.

The home side pushed on in the closing stages, but it was Joyce who had the final word when he broke in the 88th minute to secure the points for Malvern and perhaps put a final dent in Casuals' championship ambitions.

Town general manager, Richard Anson, said, "This was an excellent result, but in some ways we are still frustrated, we have taken four points of Causeway, who I believe will win the league, beat Tividale just a few weeks ago on their own patch, and have now completed a double over Wolverhampton Casuals, yet we are only sitting in a mid-table position

"But it does go to show what this side is capable of and we need to maintain this form for the rest of the season."
