A PERSHORE College employee has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a work colleague.

The grounds maintenance worker was held at the College of Horticulture in the early hours of this morning.

He remained in police custody in Worcester as the Evening News went to press this morning.

The injured man, also said to be a grounds maintenance worker, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with multiple stab wounds.

The 22-year-old's condition was described this morning as life threatening. Neither have been named.

The college's acting principal, Peter Savage, admitted the incident had happened on the campus.

"It was between two people employed at the campus, not students," he said. "They were employed in the horticultural unit and the nursery."

He said the college would release a full statement later today.

Workers at the Alpine Garden Society, next to the accommodation block where the incident happened, were shocked by the news.

"We're amazed that something like this should happen in such a nice, quiet area," said one.

"I'm astonished that there were any workers around at that time. It's usually very quiet here and there's never any trouble," she added.

"The grounds workers always seem to get on well."
