WORCESTERSHIRE County Council bosses are trying to find out if their staff admit to working for them.

"Have you ever avoided telling people you work for the council?" is just one of the questions being posed in a huge survey of employees.

It is designed to test staff communication levels and gauge whether the county council is a good communicator.

All 14,000 employees, including those who do not work in County Hall such as teachers and librarians, have received the questionnaire with their wage slips.

"We want to know if people have the feel-good factor about working in the council, because knowing what goes on makes people feel good," said council chief executive Rob Sykes.

Diane Tilley, head of policy and review, added that a recent MORI poll revealed that the more informed people are, the more satisfied they are.

"It is important that we have a satisfied workforce because it helps us retain staff and attract quality employees, which in turn leads to better public services," she said.

The questionnaire was developed with guidance from the Local Government Association's "Connecting with Communities" toolkit.

Results will be collated and published in September and will form part of the council's internal communications action plan.
