IT would take a rare person indeed to say they've never been drunk in public and I personally would be hard pushed to find someone who had not had such an experience.

But when it comes to The Levellers' idea of being drunk in public, this takes on a different concept.

Remember The Levellers, the traveller, folky, attitude types who burst on to the music scene around the early 1990s?

Perhaps best remembered for being the ultimate festival band, these guys will be back with a vengeance to play Worcester and Birmingham.

Just to set the record straight, Drunk in Public is the name given to their acoustic set but, if you are expecting to see a Levellers gig, then think again.

Drunk in Public is an acoustic mellow set performed by singer Mark Chadwick, guitarist and mandolin player Simon Friend, and fiddle player Jon Sevink.

The three guys will be joined by mate Rev Hammer, a singer and songwriter, when they play in the Faithful City.

Worcester people will be able to catch the set when the guys come to the Marr's Bar, Pierpoint Street, on Friday, August 9.

But for those die hard Levellers fans who want to see the whole band play, or who cannot get tickets for the Marr's Bar, they will not be disappointed as the band will be playing at Birmingham's Academy on Friday, November 29.

Fans can also soon look forward to the The Levellers new album, Green Blade Rising.

The title comes from a very early Levellers song that they only performed in 1988 and 1989.

At one stage it was the chosen title of a compilation of early singles and demo which later became Special Brew.

"They do Drunk in Public ever so often," says Levellers tour manager Jason Bell, referring to the gig of course!

"It's not a Levellers gig, but it will be mostly Levellers fans who come to it.

"They're playing Drunk in Public in towns where they don't have room for big gigs."

Jason says the Drunk in Public gigs have been going down very well with the audiences in the smaller more intimate venues and added that the Marr's Bar audience can look forward to a few Levellers songs at the acoustic gig.
