QinetiQ has joined forces with a Cambridge-based company to perfect the latest generation of large flat TV screens.
The company has taken a six per cent equity stake in Screen Technology Ltd, which has developed ITrans, a new method of making screens.
ITrans allows high brightness, seamless displays of essentially unlimited size to be built at low cost.
It has been designed to meet the cost requirements of the market for 40-to-60-inch screens for home cinema and high-definition TV. It will also be useful for ultra-large displays such as those at rock concerts and sports events.
Dr Graham Brown, QinetiQ's director of new ventures, said: "The flat panel display market is currently worth $30 billion and Screen Technology's new ITrans technology has great potential in this hugely valuable market."
