THE rangers of the future gathered at Chapter Meadows in Worcester to learn how to nurture and protect the city's wildlife.
Youngsters aged five to 13 attended the special training day at the site, off Slingpool Walk in St John's.
It was organised by the city council and The Duckworth Worcestershire Trust in a bid to find the next generation of rangers.
Activities included a nature quest, animal handling and creating a wildlife nature reserve. There were also puzzles and quizzes.
Everyone was given a map listing all the activities and anyone who completed all eight tasks was presented with a certificate.
Those interested in becoming a ranger were asked to return next summer to form a Young Rangers Club.
"By encouraging local children to understand the work of the city's ranger service, we hope to encourage them to get involved in the valuable and worthwhile work of being a young ranger," said Warwick Neale, conservation officer at Worcester City Council.
