DAMAGED trees and overgrown footpaths on a Worcester estate could soon become a thing of the past thanks to a recent site inspection.

Ways in which to improve St Peter's estate are being addressed by Ian Yates, parks and cemeteries manager at Worcester City Council, who took part in a recent site meeting.

Mr Yates, who is responsible for estate maintenance, met Malcolm Winwood, a member of St Peter's Parish Council, to walk Norton Road and Bath Road to assess any problems.

The results of the meeting were reported to members of St Peter's Parish Council.

"There is an overgrown footpath where Norton Road joins St Peter's Drive and the walkway is impassable," said Mr Winwood.

"Three people and a dog had to duck to go under the overgrowth, but it should be cleared in the next week or so."

Mr Winwood said the Ketch area was the most unacceptable part of the walk.

"It displays shoddy workmanship with grass randomly cut and trees damaged," he said.

"Ian was shocked at what he saw, particularly as the work was supposed to be supervised.

"He's intention is to redevelop the whole area, to re-landscape the shrubs and trees for October this year."

Mr Winwood said other plans to improve the estate included the planting of trees at the Norton Road sub-station.

"Trees will be planted to screen it by next February," said Mr Winwood at the last parish council meeting.

Mr Winwood said the outcome of the meeting was a positive one.
