ANDY Keast was delighted with Worcester Rugby Club's opening pre-season test as they overcame Swansea 26-22.

The Sixways coach saw Gavin Pfister bag two tries on debut while fellow new boy Adrian Olver touched down to add to a penalty try.

In a game, which was cut short midway through the second half due to torrential rain, Keast and director of rugby John Brain ran the rule over 29 players as the squad played competitively for the first time on Saturday.

And for Keast, the match, despite the weather, was a big success.

"I was very pleased," he said. "Considering we'd done no live contact before this game -- the first skin on skin if you like.

"To achieve the continuity of the first 20 minutes was very good. The second 20 minutes, fatigue stepped in but we expected that because it was the first pre-season match. The third 20 minutes - forget it because of the conditions but for the final section of the match, again we were very pleased because we had a really good driving line-out which led to a try.

"For an exercise and we kept stressing that it was a training session, we take a lot of positives from it."

Worcester started with only two new signings from the summer - winger Craig Hudson and prop Adrian Olver - however, trialist John O'Reilly took the number nine shirt and acquitted himself well.

Fly half Craig Chalmers looked in good shape and his passing was first class on a positive day for the club.

"Nobody let themselves down," added Keast. "Everyone went out there and did their little bit. It's always going to be harder for the new boys because they are in a new system and it will take them time to fit in. The older guys from last year kicked off very well - I don't think Swansea touched the ball for five minutes at the start. It was lovely to see but the weather - I've never seen anything like it!"

Keast and Brain will today sit down with O'Reilly and discuss whether he will be staying on at Sixways after his Swansea display. The former Leeds Tykes man was brought in last month after the departure of Richard Smith to Cardiff.
