A MEMBER of the West Mercia Probation Service has been appointed to the Home Office National Finance Group.
Mike Weaver, treasurer to the board, will be involved in discussing the financial implications of new legislation, efficiency measures and the consequences of the Government's spending review of the probation service.
The group will also be used as a sounding board to the National Directorate at headquarters, and will provide local intelligence feedback.
Real coup
"Mike's appointment is a real coup for the service," said Tricia Bradbury, chairman of the West Mercia Probation Service Board.
"Hopefully, he will be able to bring attention nationally to the services of the local probation service."
"My appointment was a real surprise," said Mr Weaver.
"I am sure that it will provide me with the chance to feed local intelligence to central Government, and vice versa."
