A HEREFORD grandmother became suspicious when she found £650 in notes in her grandson's clothes as she collected them to be washed, Worcester Crown Court heard.

She then searched the wardrobe in his bedroom and found two blocks of cannabis resin worth £1,370, said Lee Marklew, prosecuting yesterday.

The schoolboy, aged 15 at the time of the offence and now 16, told police that he had been storing the drug and the cash for an older man.

But he admitted he had been smoking cannabis and had run up a drug debt of £1,000.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was ordered to do 150 hours of community service after admitting having the cannabis and intending to supply it to another person.

Tim Evans, defending, said the youth had no previous convictions and was well-regarded at school.

Judge Andrew Geddes, who ordered forfeiture of the £650, said he was giving the youth a last chance for an "incredibly foolish" offence.
