TWO baby wallabies couldn't resist the call of the wild when they spotted a hole in the fence of their Worcestershire home and have made a bolt for freedom.

The hunt is now on for the mischievous marsupials after they escaped from Shatterford Wildlife Park and Fishery, near Kidderminster.

Fears are now growing for the safety of the three-month-old brown female wallabies after they were seen watching the traffic on the verge of the main Bridgnorth road.

"They are young and very fast so this is not exactly the best place for them to be," said park owner Tim Warrington.

"As they eat mainly grass they won't starve, but we are worried about their safety and would like to find them as quickly as possible.

"They escaped through a small

hole in the fence which had been made by a goat scratching its horns.

"The wallabies are around two feet high and can really shift but if they are hiding in the undergrowth they can easily be mistaken for big rabbits and could give someone a shock.

"We really want to find them and get them back into the park, where they are safe and sound.

"If anyone spots them I would urge them to ring as we know how to catch them before they hop off again into the bushes."

Normally, the park, which opened 30 years ago, boasts four adult wallabies plus lamas, deers and goats.

If anyone spots the runaway wallabies they are asked to ring Mr Warrington on 01299 861597.
