REDDITCH police are appealing for a man who could be a key witness to a street robbery to come forward.
The 35-year-old victim had just withdrawn some money from the cashpoint at the side of the Post Office in the town centre at about 8.35pm on Sunday.
He was approached by a man who followed him to the front of the Palace Theatre.
He asked for a cigarette before snatching his phone from him.
There was a brief struggle and the victim managed to get his phone back. The attacker then escaped.
A police spokesman said: "After the incident a man came up to the victim and asked if he was okay.
"He was described as a white man, fairly tall, aged about 25-30 with mousey brown hair which was closely shaven.
"He was wearing a blue/grey shirt and jeans.
"We are keen to speak to him as he may have vital information."
The attacker was Asian, aged 25-35, about 5ft 11ins tall with a stocky build and short black wavy hair.
He was wearing a T-shirt and black jeans.
Witnesses can call DC Marcus Carter on 584888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
