Second division Wythall Bowling Club reached the final of the South Birmingham Ladies Challenge Shield after beating a star-studded Hockley Heath team by just one shot.

Every player contributed to a great team performance and at the halfway stage Wythall trailed by seven shots despite a solid 21-15 from Beth Richardson and a remarkable 21-18 comeback for Lorraine Waters against County star Natalie Reeve, after being 10 - 0 down.

The last four players overcame the deficit with a telling 21-12 from Judy Beamish against County stalwart Lorrie Sparks, a battling 21-20 from Chris Monington, and captain Elaine Holmes clinched the narrowest of victories for Wythall with a nailbiting 21-18 success against Tracy Carter.

Their opponents in the final will be Land Rover who overcame the ladies of Moseley, thus ensuring an all second division final on Sunday September 1.

On the domestic scene the ladies again showed their talent in the Wythall Open Doubles when partners Pat Bishop and Chris Monington, and Elaine Holmes with Jack Edwards reached the final to be played on Sunday September 15.
