Alvechurch manager Andy Hibbert has scotched rumours he has been given a generous budget for the new season.

Hibbert was incensed by rumours he is paying former Feckenham striker Brian Powell £80 a week.

"Brian approached us," said Hibbert, "and after he joined we got Brett Fleetwood and Martin Gallow as a bonus.

"Jimmy McDonald and Matt Bourne agreed to join us some time ago.

"We approached Boldmere for Andy Harper and Ray Gardner and signed Lee Colvin and Nick Rudge as well and that accounts for nine new players.

"There is no budget here but we are going for it this season because we have a good pre-season behind us."

Church have had an eventful pre-season with a 7-0 thrashing from Stratford Town followed by a 5-2 win over Boldmere and a 7-0 win over Badsey United.

Bromsgrove Rovers visit Lye Meadow on Saturday (ko 3pm) and Church start their season at home to Coventry Sphinx the following week.
