TO be a member of the Starlets Veterans you have to be over 60-years-old. But that doesn't stop them catching plenty of fish, and Dave Bennett (Stourbridge) only joined the Northfield section this year and broke the National Club record a few weeks ago.

This week, at their regular Tuesday event, he upped his own record by five pounds at Greenhill Fishery in Hallow by waggler fishing corn at New Pool peg seven for a 129-13-0 carp catch.

Big catches followed with Ken Giles (Alvechurch) taking second place with 89-4-0 and third going to Harold Willey (Kidderminster) with 79-15-0. The 45 anglers competing put 1,768 pounds of fish on the scales.

The Woodlands View Affordable Open was held on Deans Pool and young Aaron Munslow (Birmingham) topped a close result by pole fishing corn and meat up in the water at Deans pool peg 62 for a 94-13-0 catch.

Second, Neil Russell (Fosters Tipton), took 81-5-0 from Arles peg four and third Jamie Masson (Purchase) with 72-10-0.

On Wednesday, the Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool Open saw Bromsgrove's Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) make good use of bonus peg eight, worth £156, to take a winning 31-4-0 catch with pole fished meat.

Second was Gary Kirkham (Astwood), taking 26-14-0 while Brian Goodchild (Austin SS) was third with 25-13-8.

At Moorlands Farm, the Meadow Pool Open was topped by fishery regular Bob Jones (Moorlands) by waggler fishing meat at peg 55 for 87-6-0. Steve Watson (Moorlands) followed with 70-9-0 and third was Paul Foster (Fosters MG), taking 62-7-0.

At Lodge Park, in Redditch, the Evening Open gave the best results of the series so far with host club member Carl Bovington feeder fishing with pellet hook bait at peg nine to take nine carp for 41-13-0. Second was Mick Stephens (CSM) with 39-15-0 while third went to Mal Crook (LPAA) with 38-4-0.

Thursday saw Telfish AC on the River Severn at Arley for their Telfish Trophy event and the resident barbel were hard to find. Just two of them showed and Northfield's Jim Pedley had both of them, scaling in at 10-9-0, taken with ledgered luncheon meat from top end peg in meadow four for victory.

The KH Veterans fished their Thursday Contest at Solhamptons Valley Pool and there is no stopping Harold Willey (Kidderminster) who pole fished cat meat at peg 16 for a winning 50-7-0. Stan James (Bewdley) followed with 42-9-0 and third, Roger Barnfield, (Stourport) took 32-8-0.

Moorlands Farms' Special Costcutter Open was held on the Bank and Meadow Pools with Darren Clewley (Wesson) showing the way by pole fishing corn over pellet feed for a top catch of 92-12-0. Steve Watson (Moorlands) was second with 91-2-0 and third was Paul Foster's (Fosters Tipton) 86-12-0.

Friday's Costcutter Open was a big scoring match with David James (Moorlands AC) heading the score sheet with a pole and corn catch of 114-14-0. Mark Tooze (Lifestyle) took 107-6-0 for second and third went to Andy Newton (Lifestyle) with 107-4-0.

Woodlands Views Afternoon Open saw Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) in fine form to take the Bonus Peg money of £260 from peg 59 on Deans Pool where he pole fished corn and meat for a 140-4-0 carp haul. Way back in second place was Wayne Mellings (Fosters Tipton) with 86-6-0, and third, Kevin Slade (AOK), with 82-0-0.

The River Severn at Arley was the setting for Lucas College Road AC's third aggregate contest and Northfield's Jim Pedley could not believe his luck when he drew the same peg as Thursday. He made it three wins in a week by ledgering meat for three barbel scaling in at 9-2-0.

Bromsgrove's John Miller was second with 8-7-0 and third was Mal Gittus with 5-11-0.

The Moorlands Farm Ultimate Double Open was held on the Meadow and Bank Pools and Ian Whitehouse (Wesson) was the carp winner with 114-10-0. Silver Fish winner was Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) with 23-0-0 of roach and rudd from bank peg 22.

On Sunday, the 100 AC fished their Attendance Trophy event on the River Avon at BAA Pensham and it was yours truly, Tony Brunn, who topped the list by ground bait feeder fishing halfway along Meadow two to take a 5-14-0 bream. I then changed to whip and maggots for 220 bleak to total 10-12-0.

Second was Stuart Cutler with 4-1-0 and third was John Miller's 3-12-0.

At Astwood Fishery, the Buddleia Pool Open was won by Rob Francis (Droitwich AC) with a pole, corn and worm mixed catch of 31-12-0 from peg 63. Pete Bailey (Droitwich AC) followed with 27-5-0; third was Steve Notley (St Davids), taking 16-12-0.

Albert Jones (CSM) was the big winner of the Alvechurch Fisheries Horseshoe Pool Open by taking an all carp catch of 84-4-0 with pole, corn and meat from peg eight. Runner-up was Alan Higgs (CSM) with 81-8-0 and Mark Briggs (Rubery) took 67-4-0 for third.

At Furnace Mill, the Mucky Meadow and Mill Pools Open was won by John Goulding (Viper AC) with a pole and corn carp catch of 59-0-0 from Mucky Meadow peg 40. Second was Jez Williams (Strettons) with 45-3-0 and third Paul Evans' (Storey's) 43-5-0.

The Moorlands Farm Island Pool Open was topped by Chris Cameron (Gloucester) by pole fishing casters up in the water at peg 13 for a mixed catch of 60-2-0. Ian Whitehouse (Wesson) followed with 32-5-0 and third was Mal Talbot (Kamasan) with 31-14-0.

The Evening Open produced some brilliant catches, headed by David James (Moorlands AC) with a pole and corn catch of 152-0-0 from the margins of Meadow peg 13. Chris Cameron just missed the double with 140-0-0 and third was Chris Hill (Fosters MG), taking 112-13-0.

Nigel Plumbe (Shimano Portway) was the top rod at the Woodlands View Open with 103-13-0 from Deans peg 62, taken with pole and corn. Second, Ian Lockley (Map Starlets), took 100-4-0 while third went to Phil Rhodes (Wolverhampton) with 91-13-0.
