KINGS Norton's Hopwood ground is the venue for a meeting of North Midlands Rugby officials on Monday.

The delegation are hoping to address problems affecting teams and have included the host club and nearby Five Ways Old Edwardians in a list of a dozen clubs in 'special need' of help.

The league bosses are set to discuss matters like problems with player recruitment, a shortage of quality front row forwards and a lack of volunteers to run clubs.

County officials highlighted the concerns in a series of meetings held last season to discuss the RFU-commissioned Blackman Report in to grass roots rugby.

Representatives of both clubs pointed to a lack of rugby in schools as a significant hurdle.

Simon Lisseter, of North Midlands One outfit Five Ways Old Edwardians, said there was no shortage of enthusiasts but a lack of quality.

Lisseter said another problem for clubs in the Hopwood area was the lack of a large catchment area.

Five Ways have yet to appoint a new first team coach after advertising the post but Midlands West Four South team Kings Norton have made changes with Pete May replacing Mark Waudby as first team captain.
