TOWN emergency workers made a splash with drivers on Saturday when a charity car wash was held at Bromsgrove Fire Station.

Motorists flocked to Windsor Street to support the charity event in aid of Jo Cummings, an employee at Kingfisher Nursery, in Stourbridge Road, who is planning a trek in Peru to raise funds for the National Deaf Children's Society.

The event raised more than £350 but had to be cut short when the crew were called out to a road traffic accident in Redditch at 12.50pm.

Leading firefighter Tony Eden said: "The morning went very well - it was just a shame the car washing was cut short at the busiest time.

"Drivers were very generous and there were long queues of cars waiting to be cleaned."
